The Surfcoast Basketball Association is a newly formed affiliate member of Basketball Victoria.  It is chartered with facilitating basketball competitions within the Torquay region, taking over from the Surf Coast Shire who successfully ran the competition for many years.

WHAT AGE GROUP IS MY CHILD?

Basketball age groups are traditionally calculated in even numbers from Under 10 through to Under 23.  It can be confusing at times to know which age group your child might be in. In the By Laws section of this website, there is a detailed guide to determining which age group your child will play in.

However, for this year, here is the shorter version.

WHAT DAYS ARE THE GAMES?

Games are played across different days of the week with different days hosting different age groups and genders.

• Under 10 – Tuesday (Boys) Friday (Girls)
• Under 12 – Monday (Gilrs) Thursday (Boys)
• Under 14 – Wednesday (Boys)  Thursday (Girls)
• ​Under 16 – Monday
• Under 18 – Monday
• Under 23 – Wedenesday
• Senior Men – Monday

WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED?

​The current competitions are currently played across three venues.  Those being: the Surf Coast Sport and Recreation Centre, the Torquay Primary School and the Surf Coast Secondary College.

HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST?

The fees associated with playing basketball are set at three different levels; being, Basketball Victoria Country Affiliation, the Association Fee and the weekly Game Fees.

The current Basketball Victoria Country Affiliation Fee is set at $39.00 and is paid annually.

The current Association Fee is set at $25 per person per season (two seasons a year)

Games Fees are set as a Team Sheet Fee and are set accordingly:

• Seniors - $75.00
• Juniors $60.00

Team Entry Fee for teams entering the competition are set seasonally and currently are:

• Seniors - $65.00
• Juniors - $55.00

HOW CAN MY CHILD TRAIN AND IMPROVE?

The Surfcoast Basketball Association is always keen to see its players improve and get better equipped with new skill levels as the year progresses.  For this reason, the Association will investigate hosting several Skill Development Sessions throughout the year for all members.  These sessions will be hosted by accredited and experienced Surfcoast Basketball Association coaches and assistant coaches.

WHAT ABOUT IF MY CHILD DOESNT WANT TO PLAY?

We believe that your child should not be lost to the game that we all love - there are several other opportunites for your child to become involved in this great sport.  The Association will be running accredited Coaches Courses from time to time for those aspiring to coach, and also beginner Referee Schools for those wishing to officiate on games (and earn a little bit of pocket money).
