Get to know Josie Logan our Netball Victoria / AFL Goulburn Murray Netball Administrator. Josie provides us with an overview of her first few weeks in her position.
I am working 2 days per week administering the netball for the GVNL and KDFNL. I have also taken on the role of Senior Regional Development Manager (North East) with Netball Victoria 3 days per week.
Netball is one of my passions and the opportunity to support and grow the game in our region was something I could not resist. I have played netball all my life, most recently at Stanhope FNC where I also took on the role of Netball Secretary. In my spare time I also look after the administration for Shepparton East Auskick
I grew up in Benalla and Wangaratta and spent school holidays with my grandparents in Shepparton. Once I completed VCE I moved to Melbourne to study and work. I met my husband and an opportunity came up for us to move to the area so we took it. Our children (Annalise 3 & Lachlan 7) love growing up on the farm which is important to us. We also wanted our children to experience football/netball clubs, being a part of a club has been a great way to meet people and make lasting friendships.
Our little family has a huge love for sport, Lachlan is involved in Auskick at Shepparton East, school soccer and Taekwondo. This is my first year not playing netball and its not easy! However I have taken to taekwondo which has been good for my ‘old’ body. Annalise keeps asking when she can start playing Netball and this morning football! (I will be pushing netball that’s my job) My husband grew up playing football at Calivil United, East Burwood and lastly at Stanhope.
I have been lucky enough in my first few weeks to attend a netball clinic in Wangaratta run by Kate Moloney (Melbourne Vixens), Multicultural Day in North Bendigo with Kim Commane (Melbourne Vixens) and a NetSetGo Upskill session in Bright. I also attended a session presented by ex-AFL player Jake Edwards called ‘Outside the Locker Room’. This is a fantastic program for our young netballers and footballers and I highly recommend getting to a session.
We have great opportunities to grow our game into new communities with programs like NetSetGo Inclusion and One Netball all supported by Netball Victoria and Netball Australia. This will be one of my main development focuses with a project started at the Shepparton High School and more to come.
My two roles are fast paced and exciting and everyone has been very welcoming. It’s great to be involved with so many like-minded people who want to develop netball in our region. I have an open door policy, so please contact me if I can be of any assistance.
