A great find for the league's history committee has surfaced with the discovery of a 1933-38 Minute Book from the Sydney Football Club.
This was the former name of Sydney Naval (Club) which folded in 1970 whose headquarters was at Trumper Park.
The publication, most of which is hand written, gives an account of some amazing happenings during the depression years of Sydney football and includes several club annual reports.
It also provides a valuable insight of the day to day workings of a club, not that much dissimilar to today with the committee chasing players' fees and targeting those who had made off with jumpers from the previous year.
Then, the side was headquartered at Wentworth Park, Glebe.
The book was in the hands of Wahroonga resident, Bob Gray who's father was secretary of the club for many years.
He also handed over a photograph of the 1947 NSW State Team which narrowly defeated Queensland in Brisbane in June of that year.
Some absolute luminaries of Sydney football of the time are in the photo, including renowned, if not legendary international cricketer and later Chairman of the NSW Football League, Keith Miller.
Both of these articles will eventually be lodged with the State Library of NSW where the history committee is concentrating its inventory of material.
It goes without saying that the committee is extremely eager to locate similar articles of interest and history of football in Sydney, a game which was first played in the NSW state capital in 1877.
