Two ACT female players will be in the mix to take one of 50 spots in the 2015 Women’s exhibition matches to be played this season between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.
Eastlake’s Karina Demant and Belconnen’s Heather Anderson both travelled to Victoria on the weekend to take part in the Victorian AFL Draft game at Whitten Oval.
The game included some of the most exciting female footballers in the country, and both Demant and Anderson stated their claim to become the first female player drafted from the ACT.
Demant said the opportunity to play with some of the most talented female footballers from around the country is something she craves.emant and Anderson stated their claim to become the first female player drafted from the ACT.
“I have loved playing footy since I first started and to get an opportunity like this is one I will cherish. Female Football is certainly come a long way and to have matches like this only shows the direction it is heading in,” KD said
“Female players now have a lot more opportunity to display their talent with a number of talent programs now in place across the country so girls coming into the sport now have a clear pathway and development tools compared to when I was growing up”
The draft will be held on Monday 20 April 2015 with the first match to be played on Sunday 24 May 2015.
