Following the announcement last week, the Canberra Demons have made a number of key signings
ahead of the 2016 NEAFL season.
2015 AFL Canberra Mulrooney Medallist Isaac Taylor, Belconnen teammate Jack Baker along with Tasmanian local Mitch Rainbird are of the most recent players to sign as the Canberra Demons
prepare for the season ahead.
“It was hard to leave Belconnen, a club I have grown up with since the age of four. I can’t thank them
enough.” said Taylor, who has moved across to the Canberra Demons from Belconnen.
“However I am very happy to have signed with the Canberra Demons and support the new structure
of football in Canberra. I wanted to support Canberra football and Canberra Demons offered that
opportunity to play at the highest level that could be provided so I wanted to take it on with both
hands to continue developing my skills at a higher level”.
Former Glenorchy District Football Club player Mitch Rainbird has joined the Canberra Demons after
relocating to Canberra from Tasmania with hopes to challenge himself in a stronger competition.
“For the season I expect myself and my new team mates to really push ourselves and improve each
week to develop as a team and as individuals” he said.
Having represented Tasmania in the Under 18 Championships in 2014 and 2015, Rainbird is focused
on playing consistent footy throughout the season, refining his skills both on and off the field.
With the young players already aspiring to represent the ACT, Head Coach Ben Waite believes the
new list of players will bring a new face to AFL in Canberra.
“The incorporation of ‘Canberra’ within the title ‘Canberra Demons’ has not only made it all
encompassing of the region enabling players that wouldn’t have otherwise come due to existing
rivalries but also interstate talents such as Sam Martyn (SA) and Mitch Rainbird (Tas) which enables
Canberra to now showcase it best talent from home and abroad” Waite said.
