Pirini signed for Adelaide Lightning

Pirini, 19 and 169cm, was a member of the Australian team at the FIBA Under-19 World Championship and currently is based in Canberra at Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence.

She is the sixth new face signed - and the third Mikayla - behind Mitchell, import Mikaela Ruef, Kelly Bowen, Mikaela Dombkins and Jess Bygate.

Lightning coach Tracy York also has contracted promising local juniors Morgan Yaeger and Taylor Ortlepp and former development forward Jess Good.

“I rang the Centre of Excellence and spoke with Kristen Veal there about which players might be available (for WNBL) and ready,” York said.

“I needed a point guard and Mikayla has been identified in the Australian program.

“She is a hard worker with a great attitude and that’s what we need.”

“Mikayla’s work ethic and attitude is second-to-none and that’s part of the new culture we aim to build,” York said.

Adelaide will have its first pre-season session on Monday, August 31.
