Team of the Week Round 2

There was a first win for the competition newcomers Clarence Utd in an eight goal thriller over Northern Rangers. The champions Olympia were upset on their home turf by an emerging Devonport side. A gritty battle played out at KGV between as Hobart Zebras overcame a dogged 10 man Launceston City side. Whilst it was business as usual for South Hobart down at the Den. In all of that, these were the players who most stood at.

Goalkeeper

Mark Grace - Kingborough Lions

The Lions may have conceded four goals but it could have been a lot worse without Grace between the sticks. The big man made a series of fine saves to keep the damage to a minimum and will feature heavily in Specsavers save of the week.

Defence

RB- Liam Quaile - South Hobart

Is an emerging force in the right full back position, his attacking instincts to get forward and overlap are causing all sorts of problems for opponents. His delivery into the area is first rate as shown when he set up a Leszcynski goal with a sublime cross.

CB- Joseph Zupo– Devonport Strkers

A towering presence at the heart of the Devonport defence, the giant Canadian was a man mountain as his side withstood a barrage of Olympia attacks to defend their 2-1 lead, dominant in the air and on the ground.

CB- Nathan Gratton - Devonport Strikers

Partnering Zupo in the team of the week is fittingly his partner in the heart of the Strikers defence. He did concede a penalty on Sam early on but he more than made up for it with a number of crucial stops and last ditch challenges as the game wore on.

LB- Loic Feral– South Hobart

The French full back goes about his business with a minimum of fuss, his passing ability out of the back is key and he very rarely allows anyone in behind him. Another

Midfield

DM- Daniel Syson – Devomport City

The third of the Devonport trio, who did their best Gandalf "You shall not Pass" impersonation in the middle of Warrior park. Syson worked tirelessly and snuffed out attack after attack with a brilliant defensive midfield display.

CM- Nick Lanau Atkinson – Northern Rangers

Is now the key man in a creative sense for his side and didn't disappoint against Clarence, curling in a sublime free kick from 25 yards before setting up another with a pinpoint cross for Thannhauser.

CM- Nick Naden – Clarence Utd

Showed all the strength and poise of a centre forward to score a lovely first goal before securing all three points with an even better second goal,  launching a mazy run from his own half before slotting home.

Forwards

LW- Kurt Engels – Hobart JEEP Zebras

Was a constant menace throughout the match, bobbing up on both flanks and capped his performance with a wonderful individual goal, cutting inside onto his preffered left foot to open the scoring.

RW- Andrew Robb – Clarence Utd

Toiled hard down the right hand side and was constantly involved in many of Clarence's best attacking moves. Set up the first goal for his side and then earned a penalty.

ST- Alex Leszczynski – South Hobart

A second appearance in as many weeks from the form striker in the State. Another brace for the powerful forward who gave the Lions defenders nightmares with his bustling style and clinical finishing.
