Team of the Week Round 7

Congratulations to Mattias Toghill of Hobart Zebras, whose barnstorming display against Olympia saw him take out the Round 6 Player of the Week award.

We've gone full Guardiola this week as we try and reward the abundance of central midfielders who seemed to shine in round 7.

GK- Graham Wright, Hobart Zebras

A solid day in goals for the Scotsman who offered stability and leadership to the Zebras backline. Could do nothing about either of the goals and made a few good stops. His long drives from his goal kicks down the middle were a key feature of the Zebras game and helped set up their equaliser.

CB-Kobe Kemp, South Hobart

Is there more a Pep thing to do than play a midfielder as centre back? He played there for all of 15 minutes granted, but his distribution in this period was the best South had it all day. In midfield he was reliable as ever, as along with his teammate Morton, they helped dominate in the middle of the park.

CB- Jayden Hey, Hobart Zebras

After his side made a very shaky start to the game Hey was forced to move into defence from midfield and it was a key move in determining the outcome of the game. Made multiple crucial blocks and his composure on the ball was something that had previously been lacking.

CB- Jorge Palacio, Northern Rangers

The Rangers new signing has really helped stabilize the outfit and against Devonport he was immense. Dealt with corner after corner and was a large reason why his side was able to keep the Strikers to just two goals despite their territorial dominance. Could prove to be one of the signings of the season.

DM- Daniel Syson, Devonport Strikers

Syson bossed the midfield and was the lynch pin for his sides dominance in possession. Rangers barely had a sniff thanks to the tenacity of Syson who continues to shut down the oppositions key movers week in week out. His passing here was impressive and helped to set up a number of good attacking moves.

CM- Nicholas Mearns, Olympia Warriors

Mearns has certainly recaptured his form of 2015 and is once again stamping himself as one of the premier midfielders in the competition. A sublime assist from a slaloming run and a towering header capped off a strong display as he helped drive his side to victory.

CM- Chris Downes, Kingborough Lions

Downes put in a dominant display down at the Den as he consistently cut out Clarence attacks before they could develop, his set pieces were a constant threat and he distributed the ball well to bring his wingers into the play.

AM- Warren Wadawu, Olympia Warriors

The electric Wadawu gave Launceston all sorts of trouble with his constant runs and pace down the flanks. Played a hand in multiple goals, including one of his own and the Warriors look a much better side with him out there.

AM- Shane Cartwright, Kingborough Lions

Physically dominant as per usual, Clarence simply had no answer to the powerful Cartwright who opened the scoring and dominated the midfield all day. He has good technical abilities to compliment his physical tools. The Englishmen is clearly the key man in the Lions side.

AM- Joel Stone, Devonport Strikers

Two wonderful goals from a midfielder at the top of his game at the moment. His first was a superbly timed volley and his second a brilliant hit from range after playing a lovely one-two in the middle of the park to start the move.

ST- Luke Huigsloot, Hobart Zebras

The two assists for the two goals came via the head of Huigsloot who was an absolute battering ram up front for the Zebras all afternoon against South Hobart. Not pretty football, but very effective when you have a player of this caliber up top and he proved almost impossible to deal with.
