South Hobart Stun Zebras With Incredible Comeback Victory

South Hobart scored four times in the final 20 minutes to recover from a 4-1 deficit and record an incredible 5-4 victory over the Hobart JEEP Zebras at KGV. The game appeared to be over when Dwayne Walsh restored Zebras three goal buffer in the 74th minute but goals to Hall, Hess and Turner in the space of 10 minutes leveled the game before Hess completed the miraculous comeback with his stoppage time winner.

It was the Zebras who got the jump on the South as they took the lead 16 minutes in against the run of play. A cross from Undy to the back post was dropped by the keeper Brown, as he tried to come over the top of Huigsloot and it slipped through his fingers and into the net.

Brown then atoned for that error with a great save sliding out at the feet of Mckeown. The rebound fell to Huigsloot but his effort was blocked on the line by Jack Turner.

It was another error at the back that then allowed the Zebras to double their advantage, Oscar Thomas stepping across and fouling Adam Mckeown as he dinked the ball in front of him into the box. Paul Stevens stepped up and sent Brown the wrong way from the spot.

South finished the half the stronger but weren't looking particularly likely as Harrison and Stevens dominated at the back.

Early in the second half it was 3-0 Zebras. Muller played it through to Huigsloot at the top of the box and he hammered it first time into the bottom corner with a clinical finish.

The game was really opening up as South sought a way back into the contest and on 66 minutes they were handed a lifeline thanks to a fine individual effort from Kobe Kemp. Playing in more advanced areas in the second half he had a significant influence on the match and his goal was superb.

Taking it inside the box he faked cutting inside which sent Harrison the wrong way before going back outside onto his left and hammering the effort into the back of the net.

Zebras responded almost immediately however as Dwayne Walsh restored the three goal buffer, following some nice work from substitute Stuart to set him up at the back post, he buried his chance.

It was suddenly raining goals at KGV as South scored twice more in two minutes to cut the gap to 4-3.

First James Sherman under cooked a header back to his keeper which Darcy Hall pounced on and volleyed home in style before Hess beat Wright to a Nick Morton free kick from long range which he headed home.

Suddenly a game that the Zebras had firmly in their keeping was looking in serious doubt and South then drew level as another Morton free kick was headed home, this time Jack Turner the man on hand to bury it with a thumping header.

The Zebras were shell shocked and with momentum and confidence flowing, South duly went on to complete the come back.

Ticking in to stoppage time, Nick Morton was again the provider, tearing down the left before putting a cross into the 6 yard box where Fred Hess was inexplicably unmarked and he tapped in from close range to seal a famous 5-4 victory.

The win moves South Hobart up above Zebras and into second place on the NPL Tas table heading into next Saturday's final round of fixtures.
