Football fans will be able to experience the Peter Jackson VFL on Good Friday, with Queen Elizabeth Oval hosting Bendigo Gold against their former AFL affiliate Essendon.
Bendigo Gold coach, Aussie Jones says it’s an exciting opportunity for his club to showcase VFL football to the Bendigo community, with a crowd of over 2500 expected.
Jones has long campaigned for VFL football to be played on Good Friday and has been buoyed by the support his club has received from AFL Victoria to make the game part of this year’s fixture.
“Getting the opportunity to play on Good Friday is a really strong part of our plan going forward to be a sustainable club,” Jones said.
Bendigo will be backing up the following Friday with another home game against Footscray scheduled for 6.30pm, one of two games to be played on Anzac Day, with Frankston hosting Richmond that afternoon at Frankston Oval.
Jones knows that it’s another great opportunity for the club to show case not only the developing football talent on the Bendigo list, but the club experience as a whole on this special day.
“We are certainly improving on field, but the way the club is presenting itself off field is so different to previously.
“We are running great events and people are enjoying coming to the games,” Jones said.
“The QEO lights up beautifully on a Friday night and people really enjoy coming up after work and watching the Bendigo Gold play.”
Also on Good Friday, Coburg will host Northern Blues in the AFL Victoria Development League at 12:45pm at Piranha Park (Coburg City Oval)
