Just when the 2015 Peter Jackson VFL senior coaching roles looked settled, Geelong has made a late change with Paul Hood taking the reins at the Cats next year.
Hood’s role will focus not only on Geelong’s VFL team, but also the academy program at the Cats.
The former Geelong Falcons coach in the TAC Cup takes over from Matthew Knights, who will now focus on the midfield for the Geelong AFL team after three seasons in charge – his first producing a premiership in 2012.
Hood has already seen a number of changes to his VFL list with captain Dom Gleeson heading to Torquay, Andrew Banjanin to St Mary’s and Chris Lynch to Bell Park.
The Cats have announced three key signings, with former Port Adelaide listed midfielder and triple Central District premiership player Ryan Williams returning to Victoria after eight years interstate, Matt Farrelly joining from Bendigo and Tom Ruggles from Leopold.
In other off field moves at the club, former Geelong VFL captain Troy Selwood will move into a new role as Academy and VFL manager while current operations manager Ben Waller will take up a new role as Geelong’s football administration manager.
The appointment of Hood is the fourth VFL coaching change of the off season, with Justin Plapp replacing Rohan Welsh at Casey Scorpions, Paul Hudson taking over from Simon McPhee at Sandringham and Patrick Hill takes over from Simon Goosey at Frankston.
