Round 15 came to a close today - 15 weeks after it began back on March 29 when Williamstown hosted Box Hill Hawks.
The final two games of the round saw big wins by both Footscray and Geelong as neither team showed their opposition mercy today.
Let's take a look at their wins:
Geelong rocket back in the 8
Geelong has bounced back to form, and into the top eight with a 21 goal demolition of Sandringham. The Cats produced 10 individual goal kickers on their way to a 129-point win over the Zebras.
After keeping the home side goalless in the first term to establish a 36-point lead, Geelong then piled on eight goals in the second term to put the game beyond doubt at half time with an 11 goal lead. Michael Luxford had all three of his goals for the game by half time, with goal kicking duties then passed on to Lincoln McCarthy and Jordan Schroder who both helped themselves to four goals for the game.
With 14 goals separating the sides at three quarter time, Geelong did not take the foot off the pedal in the final term, again keeping the Zebras goalless as they piled on another seven goals to win by over 21 goals!
Captain Dom Gleeson led by example with three goals and had a great first half. Other best players for Geelong were Jed Bews, McCarthy, Schroder, Mitch Brown (2 goals) and Darcy Lang.
Sandringham struggled for options to goals, with better players Clint Jones, Lewis Pierce, Jack Noone and Tom Simpkin.
Footscray back in top two
Footscray ensured Port Melbourne do not jump any further than one game on top of the VFL ladder with a 53-point win over Essendon. It was a consistent four quarter performance from the Bulldogs, never allowing the Bombers to get into the game throughout the day.
Liam Jones was the star for the home side, with three goals in each half to be the focal point Footscray needed to set up their victory. In a lowlight for the club, Clay Smith did not return to the field in the second half.
Footscray had the advatange in the middle of the ground, with Brett Goodes, Nick Lower, Shaun Higgins and Lin Jong proving hard to stop.
Fletcher Roberts was the best for the home side, along with Jones up forward with 18 disposals to go with his six goals, Higgins in the middle (21), captain Lower (29) and Goodes (25).
For Essendon Kyle Hardingham, Elliott Kavanagh and Anthony Tipungwuti each kicked two, with the best being Ariel Steinberg in defence, Orazio Fantasia and Tipungwuti.
