ASBA joins the ASNOC to celebrate Olympic day

The American Samoa National Olympic Committe with its organizing committee had a successful Olympic Day event at the Veterans Memorial stadium in American Samoa. A huge turnout of people made a big showing at the event. ASNOC President, Victor Langkilde, was very pleased with the outcome of the event and thanked all of the federations for their commitment to their respective sports.

The event started with a 10K run & 5K "fun-walk" for all participants. Registration began at 5 in the morning and got underway at 6:30am. Runners were very competitive in the 10K run in their respective age categories.

The Basketball federation set up two basketball rims at the event with President, Milton Taufa'asau, spearheading clinics for the young athletes with board members Tuni Tauiliili & Allen Fuimaono. On the other court, 3x3 competitions were being conducted as sort of a platform for the upcoming 3x3 tournament on August 17. A great turnout of all ages participated in the clinic & 3x3.

The ASNOC President was very pleased to see the commitment & support from the basketball federation as the new administration continues to move forward with its program. "If we continue to strive and better our sports through commitment and volunteering our time especially for the youth, the results will rewarding. We need to continue that drive and keep moving forward." said the ASNOC President.

The basketball association is preparing for an open 3x3 tournament on August 17, with another one in the plans for September 9. Following with the annual Moso'oi tournmanet slated to begin September 14. "We want to see more teams, coaches & players to come out and develop and compete. This will be a great opportunity to introduce the 3x3 in American Samoa and also prepare for future tournaments." ASBA President commented at the conclusion of the Olympic Day.
