The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) have teamed up with the Port Moresby General Hospitals’ Sir Brian Bell Foundation (SBBF) Youth Blood Drive, creating the opportunity for people to donate blood at tonight’s Twilight Basketball session being held at the Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Centre.

Along with the usual on-court basketball action, the Blood Drive team will be setting up four beds, collecting blood from 5pm to 9pm. BFPNG and the Youth Blood Drive are hoping to have 100 volunteers donate blood throughout tonight’s event.

BFPNG Chief Executive Officer Joel Khalu said that Twilight Basketball provided the perfect platform to help promote the Youth Blood Drive initiative.

“We've had more than 300 people attend each Twilight Basketball session over the last month and that’s a great crowd for us to promote healthy lifestyle messages to,” Mr. Khalu said.

“The Blood Drive event is about more than just giving blood. It is about bringing awareness regarding the importance of maintaining healthy life habits.”

“That message aligns perfectly with what we already endorse through our Hoops for Health program, so it makes sense for us to partner with Port Moresby General Hospital and the SBBF Youth Blood Drive initiative.”

Anybody interested in donating blood will be required to undergo a screening process beforehand. All volunteers who successfully donate blood will receive a free BFPNG T-Shirt or pair of shorts.
