IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS AND CLUBS

Dear Clubs and Members

The current City of Greater Shepparton 2017 to 2021 draft plan has been released recently.  Unfortunately, at this stage it does not include any plans for redevelopment of the Basketball Stadium or expansion of court facilities.

In 2015, the council prepared the Shepparton Sports Stadium future direction plan which laid the foundation for the extension of the stadium for playing services and this included enhanced community use.  At this time, the document stated “The proposed development of the Shepparton Sports Stadium has a strong alignment to key strategic Council documents including the Council Plan 2013-2017, Sport 2050 Strategic Plan and the Greater Shepparton 2030 Strategy.”

Following this document you maybe aware that the council has spent money on preparing a visual redevelopment flyover, if not please go to this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MNslyaq8gM&t=87s

With, this in mind, the GSBA board has been working heavily to focus attention on the extension of these courts providing better timing and court allocations for all whilst also being part of increasing the value to our community in sports tourism and other entertainment.

As we have not been included in the council draft plan we are asking that you make a submission supporting us and ultimately you.  Please go to this link and fill in the details, change the Individual wording then copy and paste the below in to the submission area.  http://greatershepparton.com.au/council/consultation/draft-council-plan-2017-2021

Please find attached a personal/club submission in relation to the Greater Shepparton City Council draft Council Plan 2017-2021 incorporating the Strategic Resource Plan 2013-23, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989.

I /We support the inclusion in the draft with the redevelopment and allocation of funds to the Shepparton Sports stadium to be a focal point of the Greater Shepparton City Council.

I / We believe that this development should be a key feature in the sports precinct redevelopment which is now reaching conclusion.

I/We believe that the Greater Shepparton Basketball Association has for nearly fifty years provided it’s worth as a key ambassador not only in the sport of Basketball but as an ambassador and community minded organisational leader.

The GSBA has provided fitness active and healthy lifestyles to our own community and also an economic benefit of major proportions to the general and commercial community of Shepparton.

The GSBA cannot continue the community minded work and vision without the inclusion of the stadium redevelopment in the council plan.

The proposed development also needs to be included in the draft council plan 2017 to 2021 for the following reasons.

  • The proposed development is needed as there is currently no room for any further growth or expansion for the sport of basketball.

  • The proposed development is needed as the existing building is now unattractive and outdated in an updated redeveloped area and is an eye saw.

  • The proposed redevelopment is not only of value to the basketball community but will also expand the ability of the City to enhance its economic benefits by way of entertainment, conference and sports tourism. (Tournament exposure being worth $800,000.00 to $1.2 Million for each event)

  • The proposed development will enhance the requirement of demand and that of the communities growth going into the future.

  • The proposed development will meet with industry trends.

  • The proposed development meets with the councils own stadium feasibility study.

  • The lack of facilities has already resulted in lost economic value to the community. (Under 20 National Competition valued at $1.5 million)”

The GSBA Urges you to make a submission including any or all of the points provided, or include your own and we as an organisation will make a submission to the council on the Tuesday 6 June 2017 at 5.30 p.m.  you are also welcome to attend.  It is also time to let them hear our voice as one community put it on face book and help raise awareness using @greatersheppartoncitycouncil as a tag in your posts.

Thank you for your support,

Yours Sincerely

Tony Long
