YOU will be seeing double when the senior Bega Bombers Aussie rules squad takes the field later this year as the club has announced two senior coaches.
Club best and fairest winners Adam Blacka and Chris Dwyer will both act as playing-coaches for the senior brigade for the 2015 season.
Club president Alex Nicol said he was delighted with the signing of the talented duo.
“I have tremendous admiration for [these two], they have the natural ability to find the ball, whatever the game,” Nicol said.
“We’re delighted that they accepted the position.”
Both Blacka and Dwyer have played with the Bombers since the club’s inception and have polled well in the SCAFL best and fairest counts.
Nicol said the pair’s extensive history with other sporting clubs also put them in good stead for the coaching role.
With the club entirely mixing its organisation this year, there are a few targets set for the senior and junior sides of the club.
“Every club wants to go one better.
“We’re talking about a club going into its third year competing in resources, manpower, money and the whole kit with clubs that have been on deck for 30 years.”
Nicol said the new season will be a time of building and solidifying the Bombers’ place in the Sapphire Coast AFL competition.
“It’s a year when the club really establishes a foundation to build on,” Nicol said.
“We’ve got some targets we believe are definitely attainable ... and things are looking up.”
A testing factor would be if the seniors could go one better in the finals series as a sign that management changes are making an impact.
Community support for the club has been strong, too.
McDonald’s has signed on to a deal with the junior program, while the Commercial Hotel is continuing its support of the senior grades.
“It’s incredible the level of support we’re getting from the community,” Nicol said.
