New senior coach Marcus Barclay takes time away from the field to discuss how the Saints are travelling ahead of the 2014 season.
Number of teams this year:
Seven teams altogether including:
Division 1 Seniors, Division 1 Reserves, U18, U16, U14, U12 & U10
Pre-season News:
Pre-season has been extremely well attended at a variety of venues pre & post the Xmas break. Combination of running and skills, along with some indoor fitness sessions has provided a solid foundation for what promises to be a competitive season.
Expectations for 2014:
Most clubs set their sights on playing finals football, so that obviously is our long term goal. Our short term goal is to be fully prepared for Round One and focus on being more than competitive week in week out. Look to create a winning culture early on to build on for the second half of the season.
Significant signings over the pre-season:
Some new recruits include:
James & Sam Stephens (ex Altona / Albion)
Gordon Hilldson (ex Glenroy)
Chris Raftopolous (ex Keilor)
Dion Lawson (ex VFL / Altona / Melton)
Young players to watch out for this year:
We have a strong junior presence at the club. We are looking forward to seeing the continued
improvement of Adam Sullivan, Reece Penatas, Tommy Stewart, Luke Magliozzi, Riza Gashi, Zac Jiminez and Mitch Bongiavanni just to name a few. All of these boys have tasted senior football over the last two seasons so will be well prepared and are excited at the challenges that lay ahead.
Staff/coaching changes:
Our coaching staff remains intact from season 2013.
Aiden Stott – Reserves Coach
Andrew Wade – Assistant / MidfieldCoach
New U14 coach – Shaun Pearse
New U16 coach Barry Tuppen
