Dual league best and fairest and St.Albans favourite, Tim Jenkins, will don the coaches whistle for the remainder of 2015 season, after the departure of former coach Marcus Barclay earlier this week.
Captaining the club for the past three seasons, the appointment sees Jenkins become the only playing captain-coach in the WRFL this year.
Club President Gus Jimenez said when approached by the club to assume the interim role, Jenkins was more than happy to take on the extra responsibility.
“While Tim doesn’t have any coaching aspirations in the near future, he was more than happy to help the club out in the role for the rest of the season until we appoint another long-term coach.
“The club felt that Tim was the best person for the job, not only for his experience and respect from the players, but to also keep the playing group together for 2016.”
Jenkins will join a handful of current WRFL playing-coaches, including fellow Division One competitors Tom Langlands (Spotswood), Marc Bullen (Deer Park) and Josh Russo (Altona) as well as Division Three coach Robert Gretto (Sunshine Heights).
Having taken his first training session as senior coach last night, Jimenez said Jenkins had a clear message for the team.
“Training went really well last night and the whole playing group responded positively to Tim,” he said.
“He explained to the boys that they only had 12 quarters of football left to play for the season, and that they needed to do their best for the rest of the year to ensure we move forward as a playing group next season.”
St.Albans is now on the hunt for a senior coach for season 2016, with applications for the role now open.
The successful applicant will receive support and guidance from the football committee and will be renumerated accordingly.

Applications close on Saturday, September 19, 2015.
