Secondary School Competition Information

2019 SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITION INFORMATION

All games will be played at Central Energy Trust Arena, in Arena 4 (B&M & Ballroom, Arena 3, Fly Palmy Arena, St Peters Gym, Freyberg Gym, PNBHS Gym)

PLAYING NIGHTS:            Fridays

STARTING NIGHT:           Friday 24 May 2019

FINALS NIGHT:                 Friday 20 September 2019

MOUTH GUARDS ARE COMPULSORY IN SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITIONS

FEES:

  • Fees will be (this covers 12 - 14 weeks of basketball through term 2 and 3)

                                                    i.     Premier Grade                 $1450.00 Per team,

                                                   ii.     Junior Premier Grade     $1030.00 per team

                                                  iii.     Age Group Grade            $905.00 per team

  • Schools that pay before Friday 10 May 2019 will receive a discount of $25.00 off per team, this discount will not be included in the invoice.
  • Full payment must be received by Friday 5 July 2019. Teams that have not paid by then will not be included in the competition.

PLAYER REGISTRATIONS:

  1. Players must be enrolled at the school they are playing for. Once a player leaves school they are no longer eligible to play. There may be exemptions to this rule in special circumstances e.g. a player attends a school where they have no team registered or a home-schooled student who would like to play basketball.
  2. All players must register via the online portal

  1. Premier teams may register 12 players per team, all year group teams must have a minimum of 8 and no more than 12 players.
  2. ONLY PLAYERS REGISTERED FOR THEIR TEAM ARE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY.
  3. NO Junior Premier or Premier grade players can play in the Age Group Competitions.
  4. Players must have played 5 regular season games to be eligible to play in semifinals and finals.
  5. Teams who want to bring in new players to their team during the season will need to contact Basketball Manawatu to register the new player.
  6. Junior Premier grade players will be allowed to play up in their schools PREMIER TEAM, not down in the Age Group Competitions.

 

2019 SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITION RULES

The games video will not be reviewed regarding missed points.

PREMIER GRADE:

  • FIBA Rules
  • 4x 10 minute quarters, stop clock games with 24 second shot clock.
  • 2-minute quarter time, 3-minute half time.
  • Time outs: 2x first half, 3x second half (only 2 allowed in last 2 minutes of the game) 1 minute duration.
  • In the event of a draw, 5 minutes of overtime will be played to determine a winner, this will continue until a winner is found. Personal and team fouls will remain the same as the end of the 4th quarter. Each team is allowed 1 timeout in overtime.

 

SENIOR AGE GROUP COMPETITIONS (Yr 12 - 13)

  • FIBA rules apply, there will be no 24 second shot clock.
  • 4x 10-minute quarters, running clock games.
  • 1-minute between quarters, and halftime.
  • Teams may have 1, 30-second, time out per half, with no time outs being allowed in the last 2 minutes of 1, 2 & 3 quarters and the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter. Time outs can be taken anytime except by the scoring team immediately following a scored basket.
  • In the event of a draw ONLY IN SEMIFINALS AND FINALS, 2 minutes of extra time will be played to determine a winner. Personal and team fouls will remain the same as at the end of regular time.

 


2018 JUNIOR SCHOOLS COMPETITION RULES

The games video will not be reviewed regarding missed points.

Players must be either Year 9, 10 & 11, there may be some exemptions to this rule in special circumstances. A request must be lodged with or be discussed with Basketball Manawatu’s Competitions & Events Manager.

Teams in the Junior Competition must play man-to-man defence only, once the ball crosses halfway. If you think a team is playing zone defence in the Junior School Competition, an adult from your team must find a floor controller or referee coordinator. They will watch the game to determine whether a team is playing zone then the following procedures will be followed:

                       1st Offence:         Warning by the floor controller

                       2nd Offence:        Technical foul on the coach (1 free throw, followed by throw-in at halfway opposite the scorer’s table.

                       3rd Offence:        Forfeit of the game to the opposition.

 

JUNIOR PREMIER (Age group to be determined at Schools Meeting)

  • FIBA Rules apply
  • 4x 8-minute quarter, stop clock games with 24 second shot clock.
  • 1 minute break between quarters and halftime.
  • Time outs, 2x first half, 2x second half, for 1 minute duration. Time outs can be taken anytime except by the scoring team immediately following a scored basket.
  • In the event of a draw ONLY IN SEMIFINALS AND FINALS, 3 minutes of overtime will be played to determine a winner. Personal and team fouls will remain the same as at the end of regular time.
