Day 1 - U15A Boys finish with two big wins

The Boys A team finished the day facing off against Tauranga City after they won their earlier game against Tasman 108-31.

The team got off to a quick start with 6 ft 4 Jared Thornton scoring off the tip. This was followed closely by a Terence Abdon floater in the paint after his man got hit by a quality screen.

Forward Logan McIntosh picked up two early fouls but continued playing aggressive and luckily avoided a costly third.

Thornton was an absolute beast in this game and easily had 20 points plus in the first half. He crashed the boards hard both offensively and defensively and his team mates found him often in the paint with nice dump off passes.

Reimar Cruz made two impressive moves scoring off both whilst Logan Gibb took the ball of a Tauranga player and went the other way for a bucket. This closed the first quarter with Harbour up 25-12.

The lead quickly got extended to start the second with Harbour up 36-16 before a time out from Tauranga tried to stop the bleeding. Thornton was unstoppable and played wide receiver to McIntosh’s quarterback for two spectacular fast break points.

McIntosh followed this with a strong AND1 finish plus the bonus shot. He then assisted an Oliver Hayward bucket then dramatically stuffed a shot causing a shot clock violation. This sequence shows the versatility of Logan McIntosh and his importance to the team in this tournament.

Miggy Falqueza finally let his presence be known when he calmly knocked down a mid range jumper as the shot clock expired and Harbour closed the half 45-20 ahead.

Falqueza then continued his form into the second with a strip and score followed the next possession by another mid range jumper.

Logan Gibb made a sweet bounce pass on the run to Taylor Yang that set him up for two easy points. Thornton checked back into the game and continued abusing Tauranga City to a 67-35 third quarter lead.

The fourth was uneventful and sometimes just plain messy as both benches were used in the blow out game. Harbour went on to win 89-50 final score.
