Day 3 - U15 B Girls team make it to 2nd Division Semi's

The B girls were unlucky to miss out on a top eight bid as they had played very well in the tournament so far. With a bit more rebounding and size they could have a few more wins under their belt.

They started the day facing off against Hawkes Bay who they were able to defeat 52-42. This win sees them in the higher bracket of the second division with a chance to play for the 2nd Div. Trophy.

To win this they needed to beat Canterbury Country who they faced late in the evening. The Country team featured multiple players from their 2014 U13 National Champions and proved to be a handful.

The first quarter was a tight affair and the B girls found themselves down 19-10 at the end of the period.

After a much better scoring second quarter the Harbour girls had closed the gap and put pressure on the Country team to up their game. Hannah Wentworth had multiple offensive rebounds and put backs which proved difficult for the Canterbury team to control.

At the end of the half Canterbury Country were ahead only six 35-29 as Coach Claire McCurran looked to secure two wins on her birthday.

Unfortunately for coach the second win would escape her. The Country team extended their lead throughout the third and fourth despite the Harbour efforts. Emilia Shearer caught the ball and pivoted out to nail the athletic three pointer but it was never going to be enough.

The final score ended up 77-63 to the Canterbury Country team who will be favourites to take out the 2nd division trophy and a team to watch out for at next year’s tournament.
