Day 3 - Canterbury no match for strong A girls performance

The girls A team had a quarter final match up with Canterbury Metro Red who topped their pool whilst the Harbour girls have lost just the single game.

Tayla Dalton started the game strong with an early four points getting Harbour under way. The A team pressured really well full court causing huge issues for the Canterbury guards. There were plenty of early deflections and Harbour made the most of them getting easy layups.

Jessica Moors checked in and continued the intensity. After forcing a turnover she scored the fast break layup. Parehuia Delamere followed suit with another strip and score.

If it wasn’t for a ton of missed open layups the girls would have been ahead much more than the 18-8 first quarter margin.

The second quarter didn’t start very well for the Harbour girls and coach Jodie Cameron had to call a timeout and give them a talking to.

The timeout sorted out their half court offense as a nice back screen set up Isabella Elgar for a layup the next possession. Elgar followed this with another bucket a few possessions later.

A little Harbour run caused Canterbury to get a timeout to talk things through.

Moors had played very well in the game for Harbour however she had up too many fouls having to sit after picking up her fourth personal in the first half.

Coach Cameron was not happy at all with one particular call and backed her players up berating the referee about his shoddy calls against her team.

Harbour finished 36-27 at the half time break after missing the majority of their inside looks easily shooting below 30% for the game.

After a shaky start to the third period Coach Cameron needed to calm her girls down and called time out. The talk definitely worked for Harbour who came out composed and ready to take the game.

Elgar made a sweet post move for a bucket and Gracie Hasler-Ewins followed suit a little later on whilst Delamere went coast to coast to add to her total.

In one period of play Harbour got a steal and score, stole the inbounds pass and scored again.

After the initial dip in play Harbour ended the third quarter on top by 19, 57-38, entering the final period. Canterbury were going to have to dig deep to win the game.

Elgar scored a tough fast break hoop and the foul hitting the freethrow and giving Harbour the ascendency at the start of the fourth.

After a mid quarter time out from Coach Cameron it was Dalton and Jordyn Maddix who closed the game for Harbour scoring and stealing on multiple possessions capping off a 78-47 victory.

The team faces ACM1 in the semi final later in the day.
