The umpires enjoyed another successful season and some milestones, including their first year as an Umpires Association.
Senior Umpires Coach, Rod Macpherson made mention of the competition for spots over the finals series.
"Even more so this year, it was hard to select umpires throughout the finals series," he said.
"We were lucky to have great depth which created some healthy competition for spots come the Grand Final."
The trio of Luke Turner (fifth consecutive Grand Final), Sean Staniforth (fourth consecutive) and Mitchell Turner (first) officiated the Senior Grand Final.
Mitchell is the latest product of the Junior system and enjoyed a breakthrough season which included selection to the Under 18 State Zone Trials and his second appointment to the Under 15/16 State Championships, as well at the CHS Final in Sydney. He is currently in Albury umpiring the Under 13/14 State Trials.
The AFL North Coast Juniors experienced strong growth again with a number of ex-footballers joining the ranks to support the young talent coming through the system.
Neil Wood was the recipient of the Senior Golden Whistle in recognition of his services to umpiring, awarded at the Annual Presentation Night after the Grand Final. Ben Miller was awarded the Junior Golden Whistle at the AFL North Coast Juniors Association Presentation Night.
The Umpires Association ended their season with their annual trip to Crescent Head, where Dave Rolfe was re-installed as President, with the inaugural committee continuing on for next season.
The AFL North Coast Umpires Association is always after new umpires to join the fold. It is a great way to stay involved in the game in a social atmosphere and be paid for it at the same time. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Senior Umpires Coach, Rod Macpherson on 0448 833 080.
