The AFL (NSW/ACT) has upped its emphasis on quality coaching across the board and has appointed Peter Chadwick and Scott Abercrombie to ensure the best coaching practices are being implemented at all clubs.
With registration weekends approaching for Auskick and junior AFL teams in Northern NSW, players and parents can be confident of seeing quality coaching practices throughout 2010.
The AFL recognises the importance of creating a supportive environment to learn the game. As such, it is now mandatory for all coaches to have a level one coaching accreditation and courses will be conducted locally, beginning on February 28. This is to ensure all coaches are being educated and updated on the importance of a fun, inclusive and positive philosophy.
The structure of the Northern NSW course has been altered this year to include a visit to a Northern Heat Talented Player training session. All level one coaching candidates will then have an assessment of their own teaching methods at either a training session or a game.
Chadwick (North Coast) and Abercrombie (Mid North Coast) will provide ongoing support to new and existing coaches. Their key duties include facilitating a minimum of two coaches meetings during the season, assist in coordination and delivery of level one and level O coaching courses and assisting with selecting coaches for representative teams, among many other responsibilities.
With Northern Heat under 15 and under 16 training already underway, all coaches are invited to attend coaching sessions to observe and discuss the strategies involved in implementing quality practices.
Coffs Harbour training is at Leisure Park on every Monday from 4:45pm to 6pm with the squad being coached by Pete Chadwick, Darren Funston and Mark Heaney. The Mid North Coast squad train at Stuarts Park, Port Macquarie every Tuesday from 4:45pm to 6pm.
The emphasis on coaching in 2010 is designed to provide a positive environment for all players to learn the game in a fun and supportive environment.
Information on coaching courses and other coaching development opportunities is available on the coaching link at www.aflnswact.com.au or by contacting Mark Heaney on 02 6652 6560.
