The recent AFL North Coast Season Launches in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour have emphasised the need for collaboration between all stakeholders for the game to realise its bright outlook for the future.
In a show of support, around 50 people turned up at the Coffs launch, whilst a good number attended the launch south in Port Macquarie.
The Launch aimed to help deliver the skills and emphasise the ongoing support in the AFL community for the volunteers performing roles at their individual clubs, as well as to say thankyou.
A clear message was the need for Junior and Senior collaboration. By creating this alignment, there is not only greater support, but the arduous tasks are not only left to one. This is particularly important as it is the Auskickers of today who will be the Senior players driving the indifvidual clubs in 5-10 years time.
The Board highlighted their vision of AFL becoming the most forefront sport on the North Coast.
AFL North Coast Senior President, Rod Macpherson harped on the need for the League to keep ticking over to remain strong and vibrant. He also pointed out the need to maintain and even further promote a positive environment. We all love AFL, and it is a community sport, so it is pivotal to foster respect for officials and the opposition:- during and outside of matches. This is a potential competitive advantage over other codes.
AFL NSW/ACT Participation Manager, Simon Wilson was appreciative of the clubs' efforts on the North Coast, underlining their importance as the cornerstone of the AFL system. NSW/ACT have the second highest participation rate in Australia, with 126,000 people playing AFL.
The Season Launch was one of the first assignments for AFL NSW/ACT Football Services Manager, Andrew Knott, who has only been in the job for a month after moving from Victoria. He said it was an exciting time and offered his support to help clubs with off-field administration issues such as the Quality Club Program, Footyweb and the NAB Referral Partnership which helps clubs raise funds for referring home loans through any local NAB branch.
