Port Macquarie have kicked off their 2010 campaign in style overcoming a resilient Swans outfit to claim a 14-point victory at Fitzroy Oval.
The Magpies gained an upper hand in the contest as the match wore on, with Scott Payne the main target up forward, kicking six majors.
The Swans took a narrow lead into half-time with Evan Duryea and new playing coach, Kris Rundell providing drive through the middle.
In an inspired second-half, the southerners raised their level with new recruit, Craig Dicker showing he will be a valuable acquisition this season. Dean Nankervill and Shannon Skreja were also prominent in the contest.
The goals were shared for the Swans, and despite the best efforts of Dave Box and Peter Robinson down back, the Magpies came through for momentum-boosting victory.

North Coffs signalled on Saturday they again will be hard to beat this season with an emphatic 101-point thrashing over Grafton at Ellem Oval.
After a close first quarter, the Kangaroos kicked away with aide of a slight breeze leading into half-time and after that were never headed.
Impressively, the load was well shared amongst the travelling Kangaroos. Dean and Darren Funston were ever in the action in the centre. In defence, Levi Sands and Trent Cook provided strong drive from half-back, as Matt Gleeson played his negating role well.
In saying this, Grafton were disappointing in their first hit-out for the season. Despite the best efforts of Daniel Zacek in a defensive role, the Tigers lacked run and carry as their skill set was well covered by last year’s Grand-Finalists.
Up forward, Brendan Norton was clean on the small field, and Ryan Turner showed a lot of promise for a new player.
The only worry for the Kangaroos will be the injury toll with Jason Mayer (hamstring), Trent Freebody (arm) and Jack Campbell (collarbone) all in doubt for next week’s Grand Final replay with Sawtell.

The Saints have picked up where they left off with a ruthless win over Nambucca Valley at Richardson Park.
The defending premiers got off to a strong start with an eight-goal opening quarter and continued it on into half-time despite the Lions kicking their only goal for the match.
Their young stars in Jack Gillingham and Simon Taylor shone in the contest supplying well to the leading goalkicker over the past two years in Ben Hooke.
Les Cohen and Mark Couzens were again a presence, with the Saints having more avenues to goal than the Lions.
Ray McGrath tried valiantly for the visitors in what eventually proved to be a lead-up for the Saints’ clash with the impressive Kangaroos next weekend.
