There is good news about for the Grafton community and the Tigers AFL club as it has been announced the Federal Government will contribute the majority of funds towards the $2.6 million redevelopment project of Ellem Oval and the adjoining Fisher Park.
This news comes about after the hard work of the Tigers committee, and in particular, Chris Schaeffer, James Hourigan and Leith Bassett in liaising with the Clarence Valley Council.
The introduction of a Junior club in Grafton this year has also assisted negotiations.
As will be announced on Prime News tonight, Minister, Anthony Albanese has approved a $1.8 million Federal Stimulus Grant towards the project. Council have allocated the remaining funds with local sporting organisations also contributing.
Aspects of the development that will benefit the AFL include the reshaping and lengthening of Ellem Oval and the construction of a 2-story Heritage-style pavilion.
Thanks also to Joseph La Posta and Brett Petersen from AFL NSW/ACT Facility department for their support of the project throughout the process.
This continues the great work of local club personnel with Kim Wiegold and Paul Sheldon having worked tirelessly towards the Wayne Richards Park Development in Port Macquarie. Coffs Harbour clubs currently have the opportunity to respond to the Council's facility plan which also has great initiatives for AFL grounds in the Council area.
