Former Coffs Harbour Swans player, Daley Bear made his much awaited debut in the elite AFL Under 18 TAC Cup competition on the weekend.
Playing in a winning team on debut, Daley had an immediate impact as a ruckman for the Northern Knights in their thrilling 6 point win over Gippsland Power. The final score saw Northern 9-8-62 hold out Gippsland 8-8-56.
Bear gathered some impressive statistics collecting 5 marks, 7 kicks and 7 handballs. He also contributed to the teams’ win with 17 hitouts, 3 tackles and a goal after receiving a 50 metre penalty.
Western Bulldogs Recruiter, Wayne McCraw watched the game and was impressed with Bear’s efforts. “He certainly had an impact in his first game which is hard to do at this level. His disposals were highly effective and he delivered the ball inside 50 three times as well as kicking a goal himself”
In a competition that produces more drafted AFL footballers than any other in the country, Bear’s debut is a great example for other young Northern NSW AFL players of the opportunities available.
