Juniors taste success
Mid North Coast AFL Juniors hosted their counter parts from the North Coast at Blackbutt Park Wauchope, in what is to become an annual event for the best young AFL footballers from the Lower Clarence to the Camden Haven.
AFL North Coast managed to come away winning both the under 13’s and under 15’s, although the final scores did not reflect the closeness of either game.
In the under 13’s AFL North Coast 13 . 6 . 84 defeated the Mid Nth. Coast 7 . 3 . 45. with Jonty Neaves (Bellingen) 8 goals and Jack Hardman (Lower Clarence) 3 goals being the main scores for North Coast while Isaak Mandla (Northern Beaches) was selected by the umpires as best on ground for the North Coast, other good players for North Coast were Sam Taylor, James Langfield and Connor Perks.
In the under 15’s, the final margin on the scoreboard certainly did not reflect just how close the contest had been all day. It was only the North Coast’s ability to score when they entered the forward line along with their great defence that proved to be the difference between the two sides, as both teams seemed to be evenly matched in general play. AFL North Coast 12 . 5 . 77 defeated the Mid Nth. Coast 5 . 2 . 32. The main goal kickers for the North Coast were Taylor Perks 3 (Sawtell), Jeb Freeman (Northern Beaches) and Jake Saunders (Sawtell) with 2 each. Good players for North Coast were the two sets of twins, Mitch and Cody Papley (North Coffs) and Jordan and Taylor Perks (Sawtell) while the umpires selected Jake Saunders as best on ground.
AFL North Coast Juniors President, Tony Linnett said “That the games were played in the finest spirit, with all players respecting their opponents, umpires and coaches, which is what sport should be all about”.
For AFL North Coast it is now on to their annual games against the Northern Rivers AFL on Sunday 4th July at Richardson Park Sawtell.
