North Coffs has reclaimed second place on the ladder after a dominant start-to-finish win over a sluggish Port Macquarie at the Coffs Coast Leisure Park.
In arguably their best performance of the season, it was the Kangaroos who flourished in the slippery conditions, with their ability to win the contested ball a highlight of their performance.
Captain, Josh Drum led the way with an industrious effort in the centre. The conditions suited his attack on the ball and he was well supported with Brad Giri and Greg Jarman also leading by example.
Port were disappointing in a big game with their top-two aspirations. They seriously missed the leadership of Shannon Skreja and appeared a rudderless ship at times. Michael Kemp was well held at full-forward by Kurt Connelly and had little influence in the ruck.
In contrast, Ben Sykes was a presence up forward for the victors, as was Craig Bertwistle who kicked four goals. With Dean Nankervill missing, the Magpies relied on Craig Dicker to play a negating role in defence.
Port were close enough to strike at stages and despite the best efforts of Matthew Lill in the centre, the divide in depth and class told true in a pleasing result for the Kangaroos’ faithful.

It was not pretty, but the Swans got the job done and consolidated fourth spot with a priceless win away from home against Nambucca Valley.
The Coffs outfit got the early jump and extended their lead to three goals at half-time before the Lions began to breathe fire.
Darby Pearce was particularly strong in the centre for the Swans, with Evan Duryea and Tristan Snow converting their opportunities in the forward line.
In an emotional encounter, it was centre half-forward, Aaron Clarke who put the Lions into the lead by one-point at three-quarter-time. Clarke was again dominant at home, and received able support from Justin Saker, who played his first game since returning back to the area.
With their finals aspirations on the line, the Swans rallied to take out a see-sawing contest but will need to improve if they hold hopes of getting one over North Coffs next weekend.

As expected, the Saints celebrated their Sponsors’ Day with a strong win over a spirited Grafton at Richardson Park.
The writing was on the wall in the first-half, with the Saints keeping the Tigers to a solitary behind.
While Ben Hooke kicked another eight-goal haul, they were wasteful up forward under the pressure of the Grafton defence.
The Tigers came to life in the second-half belying the fact the positions of either side on the competition ladder. Justin Darby was particularly enigmatic and featured heavily in the action.
Sawtell, however, were a couple of classes above with Simon Taylor and Jack Gillingham again prominent, as was Ethan Kelly in the middle of the ground.
