The final AFLNC Seniors Representative team for 2012 consisted of Levi Sands, Kurt Connelly and Shannon McDonald (North Coffs), Peter Robinson and Tristan Snow (Coffs Swans), Jessie Schmidt, Matt Gallagher, Alex Gillman, Matt Long and Steve Long (Port Macquarie), Ryan Sheather, Justin Darby, Will Darby, Kelly Thompson and Graham Connelly (Grafton), Jim Angel, Daniel Pritchard, Trent Baade, Rick Zappula and Laclan Draper-Bell (Sawtell/Toormina) and Brad Smith and Tyson Wiegold(Camden Haven)
Most of the team made the light training session on Saturday 9th June for an hour from 5.30pm. Some team bonding and a few quite beverages were enjoyed that evening, although Rick Zappula woke up looking like he'd already had a couple of games of footy. Apparently Lachy Draper Bell knows what really happened.
The team met to collect their representative jackets at breakfast on Sunday with Rocket Macpherson upsetting some of the other "RESORT" guests when he asked for some quite in the resteraunt whilst the presentation was occurring.
A couple of Junior South Coast Intra league games were the curtain raiser for the main event. Conditions were pretty good for footy although it was a fair bit colder than the North Coast boys are used to.
AFLNC started well and dominated the first ten minutes of the game, unfortunately we only managed to kick one goal which was not enough return for our effort. South Coast managed to find their feet well later in the first quarter and led by a goal at quarter time.
In the second quarter South Coast dominated the contested possesion and clearances and with sheer weight of posseion and a large number of inside 50's managed to break away to a 7 goal lead at half time.
Chadders made a couple of changes at half time, explained why South Coast had been winning the clearances and kept the North Coast boys positive as they ran back on to the field for the third quarter. North Coast responded well winning the third quarter to keep the match alive going into the final quarter.
Kicking the first goal of that quarter and winning the clearances the Noprth Coast team still looked a chance to apply pressure and challenge for a victory. Eventually the South Coast team with their bigger bodies and more experienced players managed to kick away and win the game 114 to 57
The after game function was held at the Bridge Hotel with dinner and a few drinks. Congratulations to Snowy for winning the Paul Sheldon Medal as best team member for his committment and help on and off the field. A deserved winner.
Thanks to Chadders, Rocket and Uncle Jim for their efforts in organising the interleague game and to the players who committed their long weekend for the game.
