Having tasted the ultimate success for a second time, Goodes wants to win a third premiership medal.
"I’m not happy with two," Goodes said during the club’s community camp in Coffs Harbour.
"Call it greedy, call it whatever but that’s the business I’m in. My business is to win premierships."
And it’s not just the dual Brownlow medallist who’s ready for the club to make another climb to the top of the AFL mountain.
Actions speak louder than words and the 33 year-old said the performances of the entire squad over summer has proven the Swans are on the right path for back-to-back titles.
"The first session we had back was a 3km time trial and we had up to 10 blokes running personal bests and other blokes being five or so seconds off their PB," he said.
"That just shows the coaches and shows each other ‘hang on a minute, we’re still switched on here first day back at training, we still can improve’.
"That was a nice thing that everyone was able to do and it just reaffirms that we’re not just happy with the ultimate success, we want more."
Improvement has been a major focus for the players during the pre-season.
With a club record 319 games under his belt, Goodes has enough experience under his belt to realise a failure to improve will mean a big step backward.
"I think coming off the back of winning a premiership you obviously did a lot of right but it doesn’t mean there’s nothing to improve on," he said.
"We’ve still got to improve, we know that and we’ve still got a very young list and we’re going to try and maximise on that.
"We had the ultimate success last year but there’s still boys in our team who didn’t win that grand final and they’ve shown how hungry they are this pre-season and it’s up to us now to keep driving the group in getting better and hopefully we can be back there again."
While continually striving to have his name added to the list of only 174 players who’ve played in three premierships, Goodes has allowed himself some time to look back with fondness on what the team has achieved.
What brings a smile to his face in particular was welcoming three long time teammates to the premiership club.
"The one thing that I do feel really special about is the guys that played in the ‘06 grand final – Nick Malceski, Ted Richards, Jarrad McVeigh – for them to win one last year," he said.
"I was very happy to be able to get that win for them because if they had have went through their footy career watching us win in ‘05, and then to lose by a point and not taste it, I could really feel how upset or traumatised they might be. Now they have got it and it’s awesome."
Attending the wedding of star defender Craig Bolton last month allowed Goodes time to even contemplate the 2005 premiership that broke a 72 year-drought for the club.
"There was about 10 of us from the premiership of ‘05 at the wedding and it just felt like I was taken back to that grand final, just to that point in time," he said.
It was catching up with those mates that gave him extra motivation to be part of another premiership team. Not for himself but for those who are yet to feel the exhilaration of winning a grand final.
"That’s the best thing about those premierships is sharing it with the people you win them with and being able to continually share that success going forward every time we meet and get together and have a beer," he said.
