AFL Report Round 14– 27/7
Super Saturday In Coffs
The penultimate round of local AFL is on today and it could not be bigger with all teams playing locally around Coffs Harbour. Out at Richardson Park the Saints are hosting the Coffs Swans in U18 and reserve grade games that should be very competitive. At Leisure Park the day kicks off at 10am when North Coffs host Camden Haven in an U18 contest that provides the home side with one a final opportunity to replace the Bombers in the top four. At 11.30am the Grafton Tigers and Port Magpies battle it out on neutral territory in a game that the Tigers simply must win if they are to sneak into finals contention. Expect to see a few first graders in both sides in a high quality game. This is followed by North Coffs and Camden Haven in reserve grade at 1pm and the big senior game at 2.30pm where Port Macquarie and Grafton play off for the treasured double chance in a possible grand final preview.
The Tigers have not had a decent hit out for a few weeks now and while that has allowed the likes of Ron Davis and Ryan Sheather to overcome minor niggles the boys must be rusty. The Pies will have virtually a full list to pick from and are hitting good form at the right time. Stewart Todd and Kyle Lynch are big mobile forwards and Ethan Durbridge is having a standout season in the middle. The Pies might just be in better shape but anything can happen and it is not wise to underestimate the Tigers.

Bolton to Address Local AFL Fraternity
To follow up on one of the biggest days ever of local footy, former Swans premiership player and AFLNSW/ACT executive Craig Bolton, will be addressing the AFL fraternity at the Coffs Hotel tonight from 6pm. If you haven’t got a ticket give Jason Sincock a call or just rock up. All clubs are represented and it should be a super night. Craig will also be taking the opportunity to watch a bit of the local action during the day.
AFL Family Rallies
At the twilight, well actually the late evening, of my playing career I was fortunate enough to play in the last Coffs Swans premiership side in 1999 under the legendary coach that was Peter Morgan A strapping young 16 year old Scott Morgan (son of Peter) played in his first premiership that day. Times change and Scott is now a dad himself and has bigger challenges to face as he battles a return of cancer. The footy family is getting behind Morgs and will be holding a number of fundraisers to assist with the substantial costs involved with his Brisbane treatment. A major function is planned for August 24th at the Coffs Hotel and if you want to help give Bevan Young a call on 0411892848.
Up There Macca
Everyone loves the ‘speccy’ and the supporters at Fitzroy Oval got to witness one of the best last Saturday when the Coffs Swans McKinlay Pearce soared above the pack to pull down mark of the year in the goal square. Great grab Macca.
Browney Clocks up 500
Talk about been around! Coffs Swans reserves stalwart Gary Browne clocked up his 100th game with the Swans last weekend but told me after the game that he had played more than 500 overall! He has been playing for 35 years and still going! Beat that.
