A FEW years ago, there's no way Kaman Malou would've even dreamed of playing Australian Rules Football.
Living in South Sudan, the 14 year-old hadn't even heard of the game let alone thought about playing it.
On Friday though the Bishop Druitt College student will take to C.ex Coffs International Stadium after being selected in the NSW/ACT team for the All Nations Cup.
Now settled in Coffs Harbour, Kaman is one of five AFL North Coast players selected to participate in the KickStart Championships which start in Coffs Harbour on Friday.
The NSW/ACT team for the KickStart Championships features the Kempsey trio of Chris Holten, Vance Natty and Rylee Sines along with Ryler Maher from Coffs Harbour.
The tournament, featuring the under-15 National Indigenous Kickstart Championships, the under-16 All Nations Cup and the South Pacific Cup, will run until next Wednesday with 15 teams and more than 300 players from across Australia and Oceania.
Although relatively new to the game, Kaman admits he's fallen in love with playing AFL.
"Aussie Rules is a great game," he said.
"What I like about it is the way its played. Its so different to the other football codes."
After taking part in a few Sydney Swans outreach training sessions last year, Kaman said he’s become a Swans fan.
The first step towards playing for the Swans could be taken this week and it's a chance he's willing to grasp with both hands.
"What I’m looking for in this tournament is not just to have fun but to give it all that I’ve got," Kaman said.
"It's a really good opportunity and I won’t let it slip."
