NORTH Coffs captain-coach Darren Funston is taking some time away overseas to celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary with wife Lee.
Not a man tomiss out on his hit of footy, the word is that Freddy ramped up the live feed via the AFL phone app to listen to his beloved Western Bulldogs play Adelaide in the early morning hours in his suite in Venice.
We have no official response from Lee as to Freddy’s passionate early morning supporting antics, but the locals in the same hotel were very amused as to how Aussies celebrate wedding anniversaries.
Game on the move
LOCAL AFL has been on the move in 2014 with a first ever senior game being played at Laurieton last month and on Saturday Grafton and Camden Haven go toe to toe at Gladstone Oval.
Macleay Valley Eagles have played some junior football at Gladstone in the past and the ground has been extended to cater for the big boys.
The game is really making inroads into smaller communities.
Blockbuster at Sawtell
THE undefeated Coffs Swans and Sawtell/Toormina Saints face off at Richardson Park on Saturday in what should be a fantastic contest.
While the season is only young these two have stamped some authority on the competition and this should be a ripper game.
Jimmy Angel has the Saints looking the goods while Swans coach Jay Guthrie has basically forged a new look outfit into a potential premiership threat overnight.
I guess we will know more about that at 5pm today.
Lucky break for Magpies star
PORT Macquarie star Jessie Schmidt’s season was in doubt after the champion utility appeared to break his ankle last week against the Coffs Swans.
Jessie has broken this same leg twice in the past few years at both cricket and football and looked inconsolable as he lay on the turf after hurting the same ankle.
The good news is that the injury is only ligaments and he should be back soon.
