Port Macquarie junior AFL star Tom Dickson received some great news to reward his hard work this weekend.
Tom has been selected to play with the Sydney Swans Reserve grade at Blacktown Stadium on Saturday.
Tom Dickson shifted to Port Macquarie from Victoria in 2010 as a 13 year old. He immediately sought out the Port Macquarie Magpies to continue his love of playing AFL. Tom has played both juniors and seniors with the Magpies and tasted success in 2013 with both an U18 and Senior NCFL Premiership medal around his neck.
Tom is a member of the Sydney Swans Academy U18 squad and decided this year to play in the Sydney AFL after playing a few games there last year on permit. Tom continues to train twice a week with the Magpies who support his endeavours and he then drives down the Highway each Saturday to play U19 footy with UNSW.
After Tom's first five games this year, with Tom listed in the best each week (and leading the goal kicking as a midfielder), Tom was rewarded with selection in the UNSW Premier League team. Tom has now been further rewarded by selection in this weeks Sydney Swans Reserve Team that plays in the NEAFL.
Tom will line up in the team at 1.45pm tomorrow against Sydney University's NEAFL team at Blacktown International Stadium alongside the like of Ryan O'Keefe, Tom Mitchell, LRT and Gary Rohan. Needless to say that Tom is not only very excited about the opportunity being afforded to him, but also slightly nervous.
Tom's goal is to take his football to the highest level he can and this weekend will go a long way to achieving that goal. Check out how Tom goes by looking on NEAFL.com.au
Good luck Tom from all involved in AFL on the North Coast.
