PORT Macquarie will have an anxious wait right down to the last minute to assess star NEAFL recruit Adam Eckermann’s leg injury.
Eckermann was scintillating with five goals before being subbed off late in the first semi and looked a sorry sight with his thigh heavily bandaged.
He is the key to Port defending their premiership and clearly the best player in the competition.

Juniors starring
FANTASTIC to see local under-18s Jake Brown (Coffs Swans) and Isaac Brambley (Port) dominating during the senior finals series.
These two hard runners have silky skills and class written all over them.
Saints to regroup
SAWTELL-Toormina had established itself as the team to beat but was outmuscled by the Swans in the second semi.
That does not happen too often I can tell you.
The Coffs boys won the contested ball and the clearances to storm into their first grand final since 2006.
Saints have a habit of bouncing back and will be out to maintain that winning run against the Magpies.
‘Roos rewarded
NORTH Coffs finished with a bang last Saturday with their awards night.
Long serving volunteers Tim Heather and Danny McFadden were recognised with life membership while Darren Funston took his fifth senior grade best and fairest award ahead of Adam Mason.
Brett Vella won the Nathan Harris Medal for best player in the under-18s ahead of Clancy Dickinson.
Coffs Hotel Good Sport
ANY PLAYER who can win five club best and fairest awards is pretty special.
Darren ‘Freddy’ Funston is pretty special according to his friends. The Coffs Hotel would like to shout you a $25 voucher and I think you remember where to go.
