AFL (NSW/ACT) Northern NSW Regional Manager, Shane McAloon, made a presentation last night at the AFL North Coast League Meeting with Junior and Senior executive delegates present. He outlined progress and was confident all was going well to ensure the amalgamation occurs on 1 November 2008.
Revisiting the Purpose of the Review
- Form a committee to drive development of AFL on the North Coast
- Form a strategic plan
- Ensure viability and sustainability of the Leagues
- The working group and committee would work to ensure a new association and board comes into being on 1st November 2008.

- Junior and Senior leagues to align as one
- Poor marketing and media coverage
- Junior and Senior clubs need to work more closely as one
- Clarification/creation of zones
- Inadequate facilities
What has happened
- Working group was formed in August 2007- consisting of Jamie Coad, Greg Robson, Geoff Haskew, Jim Woodlock, Shane McAloon and Club Development Officer, Chris Mintern.
- The group worked tirelessly and suffered several setbacks but created a new constitution in May 2008.
- Junior and Senior associations unanimously agreed to form one association- late May, early June 2008.
- Approached prospective board members to drive strategic plan.
What needs to be done
- Formalise amalgamation with the Office of Fair Trading
- Organise more media coverage and send out flyers promoting and creating excitement around the new changes.
- Recruit a suitable pool of potential board members with expertise and experience and a passion for the local game, preferrably with no club affiliation.
- Election and selection of board members, mid-late September.
- New Association's first AGM, 1 November 2008.
