Sixteen-year old North Coast umpire, Mitchell Turner, has marked a successful 2008 season with selection to the panel to officiate the Swans Cup Final at ANZ Stadium.
The umpiring prodigy cemented his standing as one of the best Junior field umpires in NSW/ACT with this announcement.
It is a great opportunity for Mitchell to umpire on the big stage prior to the highly anticipated Sydney v Geelong AFL match that is likely to attract over 60,000 fans. He will also share the dressing rooms with the AFL umpires to officiate in this match.
Mitchell received the news from NSW/ACT State Umpiring Manager, Graham Glassford, and will fly down on Saturday and officiate the match with Sapphire Coast umpire, Daniel Swingler.
The Swans Cup is a state-wide competition that encompasses schools from across NSW and the ACT.
Mitchell, only last week, umpired his first Senior final and performed admirably. He is well placed to umpire a final in the Junior and Senior competitions after coming through the Green Shirt program only last year under the tutelage of coaches, Luke Turner and Rod Macpherson.
Best of luck is extended to Mitchell on behalf of the AFL North Coast.
