North Coast umpire, Mitchell Turner has been selected in the Under 15 V/Line Cup to be held in Melbourne later in the month.
Mitchell's selection comes after his strong performance in the Under 15 CHS State Championships held in Coffs Harbour this week. As well as hosting the best players in the state, the Umpires were well represented over the week.
The carnival involved the best young umpires from the Umpire Development Academy with their performances being analysed and assessed over the three days.
Mitchell will be the lone NSW representative to the panel and will gain expert tuition from umpires with VFL/AFL experience. He is understandably excited to be given the opportunity to umpire on some of the iconic regional grounds in Victoria.
"I am looking forward to the chance to develop my skills further and gain experience from umpiring in higher level competition," Mitchell said.
It has been a breakthrough year for the 17 year-old Orara High student having also officiated the Under 15/16 and 18 State Zone Trials. It doesn't end for the youngster with Mitchell appointed to officiate Sunday's Interleague clash between the North Coast and South Coast.
AFL North Coast Juniors Umpiring Coach, Luke Turner believes Mitchell has benefitted from being exposed to the Umpire Pathway. Luke, himself umpired in the V/Line Cup in 2006.
"I know from experience, Mitchell will improve from his experience in Melbourne," he said. "The camp will provide a professional environment that will prove invaluable to his development."
It proves North Coast is a strong breeding ground for talented umpires.
