Sawtell again tasted premiership success with an emphatic 70-point win over North Coffs at BCU Stadium.
The Saints established their dominance with eleven goals in the second and third quarters. North Coffs during this time kicked two behinds.
It was a totally different story early with North Coffs able to take advantage of the rust present in the Saints ball movement. Sam Dawes was effective in cutting off the Saints across half-back.
Like any great side, the defending premiers were able to make the necessary adjustments and dominated through the middle. David Carey had a monopoly in the ruck, with Jack Gillingham and Mark Couzens effective in attack and defence.
The last few weeks seemed to have caught up with North Coffs, as they lacked the run to break open the pressure exerted by the experienced Saints. Their backline was under constant pressure with Ryan Wood and Glen Golsby-Smith amongst the hard workers in the back half. They had their hands full as Tim Chuhaj was dangerous high up forward.
Luke Matthews got in the act after half-time and put his hat in the ring for best-on-ground honours. He was a reliable substitute with Ben Hooke playing more in the midfield and deep in defence late in the match.
The final quarter honours were shared in a lifeless final quarter. Darren Funston epitomised the Kangaroos' spirit and whilst very limited by his groin injury, booted six goals himself most of which came from contested marks. Luke Henschke was an inclusion for the Grand Final but was unable to have an effect on the match.
The best-on-ground honours went to 17-year old, Jack Gillingham. Gillingham came of age in the midfield division and showed composure and poise beyond his years. Daniel Johnson found plenty of the ball and had plenty of influence, especially in the back half.
The margin was indicative of Sawtell's dominance of the match and the 2009 season.

RESERVES
Port Macquarie 2.3 2.3 5.3 7.6-48
Sawtell/Toormina 0.2 1.5 2.6 2.8-20
Port Macquarie claimed their seventh successive premiership with a 28-point win over the Saints in the Reserves.
Robert Wright was superb for the Magpies, and found reliable support in the experienced trio of Chris Gridley, Paul Sheldon and Craig Carroll.
In a high-quality, yet even first quarter, Port were able to kick the only two goals for the quarter. A scoreless second quarter was countered by a three goal third-term. There was no comeback from the Saints this time.
Troy Britnell and Rick Johnson tried valiantly for the Saints, as Lachlan Draper-Bell provided some spark, especially in the early stages.
UNDER 18s
Nambucca Valley 3.1 7.8 11.9 16.11-107
Coffs Swans 2.3 3.3 4.6 4.7-31
Nambucca celebrated their first premiership since 2005 in the Under 18s with a resounding 76-point triumph over an insipid Coffs Swans.
The Lions fought their toughest battle in the opening quarter but from there the Swans were unable to compete with the victor's desire and work rate shining through.
It was a split decision for best on ground honours between Kyle Cohen and Jed Ellis-Cuff. Both demonstrated their freakish potential with five goals each and industrious performances in the midfield. Cohen got the nod with the quality of his work of a very high standard, showing he has plenty to offer the club and also the representative scene despite being a late convert to the code.
Billy McLean was good for the Swans in the opening stages, whilst Mitch Reeves was the Swans best. Normal contributors in Darby Pearce and Sam Turner were shut out of the contest which was testament to Nambucca's defensive efforts.
Hopefully the win spurs the Nambucca Valley club to bigger and better things in 2010.
