Former Coffs Harbour Wheelchair Basketballer Bill Latham has recently added to his medal tally as a prominent member of the Australian Wheelchair Men's Basketball team the "Rollers".

The Rollers recently returned from the World Championships in Korea, bearing gold medals after defeating the USA 63-57 in the final game. The result in the final was a reversal of their performance in the rounds where they went down 67 to 57 against the USA - making the Gold Medal victory all the more sweet!

Latham's latest medal adds to his Gold from the previous World Championships and a Silver from the London Paralympics.

Latham who now resides in Brisbane when in Australia, grew up and commenced playing basketball in Coffs Harbour and his family remains in the area.

Basketball has taken Bill all over the world and when not representing his country or catching up with family, he plays professional wheelchair basketball in Spain.

He started for Australia in the gold medal game in Korea and finished the game with 8 points.

Today's Coffs Coast Advocate carries a prominent story on Latham's latest exploits.

Latham's connection with Coffs Harbour has been immortalised in an evocative mural in the entry foyer at Sportz Central in Bray Street.

Bill's success is further proof that if you want to reach the top in basketball, Coffs Harbour is a good place to start.

It seems bigger things are ahead for Latham. At the tender age of 24 years he is seen as an anchor member of future Rollers teams

Congratulations Bill on your latest medal.

Congratulations and thanks also to the Coffs Harbour Wheelies for providing an opportunity for wheelchair athletes to join the fun of basketball.

Coffs Harbour Wheelies can be found at the Stadium Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoonn and they welcome the chance to show able bodied athletes how to play the game from a chair.
