FunBallers finish the season with a smile on their face

Coffs Basketball's FunBallers were the very first of the various age groups playing competitions at Sportz Central to round out their 2014 season with a medal presentation last Saturday.

"Competition" is the wrong word to describe our FunBall program as there are no pointscores and no winners and losers in the program, aimed at assisting young players to bridge the gap between Learn-to-Play and Year 3/4 competition.

Coaches are allowed onto the court to assist players with positioning and tactics and the already modified rules of the game are manipulted even further in FunBall to allow the young players to develop the skills and techniques of basketball.

Last Saturday all 8 FunBall teams played their last game of the season and then assembled for a presentation ceremony where every player received a medallion and a participation certificate.

The Association called on the services of former Primary School players, Rachel McGinniskin and Remy Bordingnon to help with the presentation of medals and certificates.

Both players have subsequently graduated from Primary School Basketball into a Suns representative uniform, travelled overseas with their sport, participated in a national championship and been part of winning a State Championship.

Both Remy anbd Rachel were pleased to share their enjoyment of basketball by being guest presenters at the FunBall ceremony.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, CHBA General Manager, Steve Smith, thanked parents for supporting the participation of their children in the FunBall program and also for being on hand to witness their last game and the presentation ceremony.

CHBA views the participation of children in sport and furthermore in a team sport as a very important part of their physical and emotional development. The association has rules and and processes in place to make sure this happens in a controlled and supportive environment.

Smith said he hoped to see all of our FunBallers back in 2015 when they will be eligible to graduate into our Year 3/4 competitions.

CHBA thanks Claire for her work with the camera which has created a legacy of the presentation ceremony.

It is clear from the smiles on the faces of the young players that CHBA has shot a successful goal in making FunBall an enjoyable experience for the young participants and their parents.
