State League Women face "D" time this weekend...

The Greenhouse Tavern State League Suns travel to Maitland this weekend to see if they can win their third State title in four years when this competition reaches its Finals stage.

After competing for many years and getting close so often, the Suns grabbed their first State League Banner in 2011 and repeated the exercise in 2013.

At this weekend's finals series the Suns, who finished the regular season as minor premiers will face Wagga in a suddent death semi-final on Saturday afternoon.

The team and coach have a sense of 'deja vu' as they head into this game. Two years ago on this court and at this stage in the season, the Suns were eliminated from the finals by Wagga, and they are Determined not to let that happen this time round.

A win over Wagga will see the Suns face the winner of the other semi-final between Queanbeyan and Newcastle, which form indicates will be Newcastle. This match is scheduled for 1.00pm on Sunday afternoon.

The Suns have played Newcastle three times this season and on all occasions have emerged victorious.

The Greenhouse Tavern Suns State League women have had an almost faultless season with only one loss in a 13 game series. In the process they have almost double the score of their opponents.

Suns coach Connie Woods feels the loss 2 weeks ago was probably the best finals preparation the team could have. "It made the girls realise that we have to stick to our game plan which very heavily relies on great defence and pressure on the ball. The players realise that when we lost to Queanbeyan, we let them play their game instead of dictating the pace."

This weekend's finals weekend will be Decision time for the Sun.
The team is very Determined to bring home their third banner.
Their plans rest on their ability to execute their Defence.

With team captain Bonny Kuchel feeling the effects of a long season and star import Ashley Buis still fighting off a bout of the flu, the Suns will need to Dig Deep to find the winning formula - but isn't that what sport is all about?

Visit the Basketball NSW website www.nswbasketball.net.au to find a link to the "live scoring" of the game.

There is a chance, at the moment unconfirmed, that NSW Basketball will livestream the game via the internet.

Good Luck to our State league Women!
