CHBA conducted the grand finals of its Winter 2014 High School Competition last Friday - next Friday it will be summer.

John Paul College(JPC) showed it is still the dominant basketball school on the Coffs Coast by grabbing the winners trophies in the the two year 7/8 boys divisions, the top 7/8 girls division and the 9/10 boys grand final.

Bishop Druitt College(BDC) which has a brace of teams across the 6 CHBA divisions took the grand final winners trophy in 9/10 girls' while the Wildcats Club, represented by their Miami Cats won the 7/8 Girls Division 2 Grand Finals.

Year 7/8 Girls Division 2: Miami Cats (22)  defeated BDC # 2 (11).
Miami Cats defeated JPC All Stars in their semifinal to make it to the G/F while BDC eliminated Jetty High in their semi to earn a crack at the major prize.

Year 7/8 Boys Division 2: JPC Ballers (59) defeated JPC Spirit (49). JPC Ballers who were minor premiers in this grade defeated North Coaast Wildcats in their semi to secure a place in the Grand Final, while JPC Spirits who finished the regular season in third spot, overcame Jetty Boys in the other semi to make the Grand Final.

Year 7/8 Girls Division 1: JPC Daisy (55) defeated Mercats (36).  JPC Daisy had a relatively easy ride to the Grand Final after opponents Jetty High could not field a team due to a school excursion. The Mercats earned a G/F berth through a victory over BDC Berries in their semi-final.

Year 7/8 Boys Division 1: JPC Nuggets (45) defeated Boomers (35).  Nuggets who were minor premiers at the end of regulation season, defeated fourth placed BDC RaRa's in their semi to book a G/F berth, while the Boomers came from third place in the table, to defeat BDC Bogans in their semi on their way to the grand final.

Year 9/10 Girls: BDC Bumblebees (42) defeated BDC # 2 (24). The Bumblebees, who topped the table at the end of the regular season, eliminated JPC Randoms on their way to the Grand Final. The BDC #2 side were third on the table but managed to eliminate the higher placed BDC #1 team in their semi.

Year 9/10 Boys: JPC Flowerseeds (42) defeated Wolverine Wildcats (50). Flowerseeds - certainly no precious petals these boys, dominated this competition throughout the season in a very laid back style.
They were too strong for fourth placed BDC in their semi-final.
On another court, Wolverine was eliminating club mates Harbour Wildcats to book a match up with the minor premiers.
The Wolverines had a sniff of victory in their grand final, but as they have done several times through the season, the Flowerseeds turned the game around in the blink of an eye, with seven unanswered points to start the last quarter and then four unanswered points to round out the game.

CHBA would like to thank the parents of our High School players for supporting and facilitating the involvement of their children in our Friday Night competition, for acting as a taxi service for their children and for assisting us through the season with game scoring, coaching and sundry other management duties.

CHBA strives to create a safe and enjoyable place for high school boys and girls to mix and enjoy themselves, free from the temptations offered elsewhere.  We hope that we have lived up to our promise to you and assure you that we will be back bigger and better in 2015.

CHBA acknowledges and thanks Yogurtland, Red Rooster and Donut King for working with us the make the 2014 Winter competition a rewarding one for our players.

To those boys and girls graduating from our 9/10 competition, we invite you play in our Tuesday night (women) or Wednesday night (men's) competition getting underway in February 2015, but also keep an eye out for a special offering for Year 11 players at the begining of the year.

We hope you have enjoyed your years of basketball in the CHBA High School competitions.
