Is Coffs Harbour basketball central?

Following very closely on the heals of a very successful school holiday program by former NBL and National Team great CJ Bruton (pictured), CHBA will this week play host to additional high profile visitors which might make you wonder if the town is Basketball Central.

This Thursday, Brad Davidson a former North Coast junior basketballer who went on to glory in the NBL and also to win a gold medal with the Boomers will land in Coffs.  Brad will be showing our players and coaches the finer points of successful shooting.

As the Basketball Australia National Shooting Coach, and a player with recognised 3 point and free throw shooting credentials, Davidson is well placed to pass on some tips to local players and coaches (refer separate story this page).

Friday will see the CEO of NSW Basketball, Danny Martinez (pictured) come to town to speak with the Board of the association about the future of our sport across the state and nation.
The meeting will have special interest and relevance for the association as earlier this year the City Council awarded the management licence for Sportz Central to BNSW.

Association board members are very keen to learn what this will mean for the development of the sport in the region and its ability to attract more events to town. to save our own representative players continually heading for Newcastle, Sydney and the Illawarra.

Martinez has a strong connection with Coffs Harbour being a former student of Jetty High and it is anticipated that he will catch up with a few former school mates during his brief stop in town.

We're not sure what the future holds, but if the last few weeks are any guide, Coffs Harbour seems to be a magnet for basketball personalities and the CHBA Board is hoping this might translate to renewed interest in our sport and the association's various programs.
