Shooting Coach has successful stop over in Coffs... UPDATED

Brad Davidson, Basketball Australia's National Shooting Coach had a very successful stop over in Coffs yesterday and is keen to return.

Davidson with the generous consent of Laurie Van Loo, head coach of our Thursday Spring Development Program, took over their regular session and took our aspiring U12 & U14 boys and girls through a range of shooting drills.

The young future Suns were joined in these sessions by two of the NITP players from Coffs Harbour.

Davidson killed two birds with the one stone, by conducting a clinic for coaches - both experienced and newcomers, on shooting drills and techniques. Tthe coaches were given a chance to be "hands-on" and work with a group of players after Brad provided the demonstration and key teaching points.

More than 50 players and 10 coaches took part in these activities and all gave the resulting clinic a big thumbs up.

It was a very different teaching environment for the National Shooting Coach, who when he is at work at the National Centre of Excellence (Formerly AIS) in Canberra is able to spend at least an hour with individual players, fine tuning their technique and getting up the repetitions, which Davidson highlighted were critical to high level success.

Davidson followed up his on-court clinic with a hour long coaches meeting once again focussing on shooting. Almost 20 coaches turned up for this sesssion and went away with a greatly enhanced knowledge about how to teach shooting and what is needed at the international level to be a successful shooter.

It was very clear from Brad's talk that over the coming years we will see a dramatic change in the way shooting is included in team practices and in the type of drills conducted and the intensity expected of players.

The Davidson clinic has highlighted the strong interest in coach development by our Primary School, High School and Rep. coaches.

For his part, Davidson spoke highly of the committment of the CHBA players and coaches and there is a strong possibility that he will return to Coffs as time and other committments allow.
