Defending Riddell District FNL netball champions Romsey kicked off its 2014 season with a win as it took down Broadford by 29 goals in the opening round of the season on Saturday night.
The Redbacks controlled the contest from the first whistle, holding the lead at every change on their way to a convincing win in the A Grade match.
Goal shooter Hope Hamilton led the way in the attacking third, scoring 47 of the side’s 59 goals, while Kirsty Blackmore and Stephanie Barnes in defence and centre Toni Lind also impressed.
Romsey’s opponent in last year’s Grand Final, Melton Centrals, also made a strong start to its season, thumping Rockbank 95-10. Reigning Ryan Medallist Renee Hulls shot 62 of the Centrals’ goals, with Rebecca Morabito scoring the other 33. Melissa Laird and Jessica May were also amongst the side’s best.
Elsewhere, 37 goals from Elyce Carlyle helped Riddell to a 35-goal win over Lancefield, Wallan beat Kilmore by 40 goals In the Blues’ return to A Grade action and Stephanie Trembath was Macedon’s best in a 27-goal triumph over Woodend-Hesket.
