The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football Netball League are pleased to confirm not one, but two guest speakers for the 2014 Bowen & Ryan Medal Night.
Former Richmond champion Matthew Richardson and former Australian Diamonds netballer Eloise Southby will be the special guests at the league’s annual “night of nights” at the Lakeside Banquet & Convention Centre this Wednesday night, with over 300 people expected to be in attendance.
Almost universally known as “Richo”, Richardson played 282 games for Richmond over a seventeen year span, kicking 800 goals to become one of the Tigers’ fans most beloved players. A thirteen-time Richmond leading goalkicker, three-time All Australian and, most recently, an Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee, Richardson recovered from several serious injuries to make his mark in footy. Now a part of the Channel Seven commentary team, Richardson’s story is sure to be a highlight of the night.
Southby, the daughter of former Carlton great Geoff Southby, has had an extremely successful netball career, winning a Commonwealth Games gold medal for Australia in 2002 and a member of the Diamonds’ team that took second place in the 2003 World Championships. A four-time premiership player for the Melbourne Phoenix, Southby in her prime was one of the country’s best players. After retiring from playing after the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Southby has made her name in the media as a commentator and author, and has also taken on coaching roles with the Melbourne Vixens.
Tickets are still available from club presidents and secretaries for the Bowen & Ryan Medal night as we salute the high achievers in the league’s football and netball grades for season 2014, so if you don’t have your ticket yet, see your club president or secretary today!
