The Melton Toyota Riddell District Football Netball League is pleased to unveil the fixture for the opening round of the 2016 season
Split over two weekends in April, the Round 1, 2016 fixture has been designed to allow RDFNL supporters the opportunity to watch every Senior football and A Grade netball match to begin the season – an almost unprecedented opportunity within country football.
The first two weeks of the season will see six fixtures spread over five days and nights, with the highlights being:
- Melton Centrals hosting closest rival Rockbank at the new Arnolds Creek Reserve in front of all RDFNL clubs, commercial partners and invited guests at the RDFNL Season Launch
- Woodend-Hesket unveiling their new surface at Gilbert Gordon Oval against Lancefield on the Saturday of week 1
- Rupertswood hosting Wallan under Friday night lights at Clarke Oval in Sunbury to kick off week 2
- Diggers Rest hosting traditional rivals Riddell at Bloomdale Oval, Diggers Rest in the only Saturday afternoon timeslot of week 2
- Romsey unfurling their 2015 premiership flag under lights against the Sunbury Kangaroos on a Saturday night
- 2015 surprise packet Broadford hosting fellow 2015 finalist Macedon on a Sunday at Harley Hammond Reserve
RDFNL Operations Manager Toby Boyle designed the unique round as a way to showcase clubs and the league to start the season.
“The 2016 fixture has thrown up a number of challenges”, Boyle commented.
“The Round 1 fixture is exciting in that we have a mix of traditional timeslots with some new ones and new opportunities to promote our league and clubs to the broader region and public”.
“Whilst the remainder of the fixture won’t be released until prior to the [2015] AGM, it is pleasing that we have been able to provide clubs with many of their requests whilst ensuring that each club has a genuine opportunity to compete and generate revenue.”
“We have some blockbusters lined up for 2016 and we are looking forward to starting it all up again”.
The 2016 fixture, which will be released in the coming weeks, will also showcase the following features:
- An ANZAC Day match between Macedon and Rupertswood at Tony Clarke Reserve, Macedon
- The league travelling to meet the Alberton FNL in the Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships on Saturday 21st May
- The Queen’s Birthday Weekend in June off for all clubs
- A split round in the second half of the season in the lead-up to finals
- The 2016 RDFNL Grand Final to be played on Sunday 18th September
